It’s a few years since we carried out this work – September 2017 I think – a tree removal to remember. In this article, we take a little look at what’s involved with a section fell, like that used in Cambo last week.
Removing two 80 ft Lombardy Poplars (Populus nigra)
We were tasked with the removal of these two large trees in a back garden in Jarrow. As you can see from the photo, there wasn’t much space.
Work like this requires careful planning and every cut needs to be precise to ensure no damage to the surrounding obstacles. In our dropzone here were greenhouses, sheds, hedges and fences.
Carrying out what an Arborist calls a “section fell” involves the dismantling of a tree using pulleys, lines and lifting gear. This allows a team of tree surgeons to safely extract each branch with minimal risk.

As you can see in the video below the removal involves a lot of careful planning. The tree surgeon uses knots and specialist equipment to ensure the branches that are cut can be safely lowered to the ground.
